Bali Trip Cost from India: What to Budget For

A Bali trip cost from India depends mostly on three things you control: your flight dates, where you stay and how you get around. A few charges are fixed by the Indonesian and Indian governments, and those are the place to start. Every Indian visitor pays an IDR 500,000 visa on arrival fee and an IDR 150,000 Bali tourist levy, according to the official immigration and Love Bali sites. If you book a package through an Indian agent, tax collected at source (TCS) also applies. The rest you can price live in an evening, and this guide shows how.

Know before you go

  • Visa on arrival: IDR 500,000 per person for 30 days, per Indonesian immigration.
  • Bali tourist levy: IDR 150,000 per foreign tourist, paid on the Love Bali site.
  • Arrival card: All Indonesia card, free.
  • TCS on packages: the Union Budget 2026 proposed 2% on overseas tour packages, down from 5% and 20%.
  • Biggest variables: flights, accommodation, local transport.
  • Last checked: 3 November 2026.

The visa fee may rise. In August 2026 Indonesia’s Director General of Immigration said the fee would go up to IDR 750,000 when bought online and IDR 1,000,000 on arrival, as reported by the ANTARA news agency. The official site still showed IDR 500,000 when we checked. Our Bali visa guide for Indians has the steps and the latest on the fee.

TCS is not an extra cost in the long run. It is tax collected in advance, and you can claim it against your income tax when you file your return. It still needs cash on the day you pay for the package, so count it in your budget.

Costs that change with your choices

Flights

Flights from India are usually the largest single cost. Prices move with the season, the day of the week and how far ahead you book. School holidays, Christmas and New Year, and the July to August peak in Bali tend to cost more. Compare a direct flight with a one-stop route through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, since the cheaper option changes from month to month.

Accommodation

Bali has every kind of stay, from guesthouses and homestays to resorts with private pool villas. The area matters as much as the type. Seminyak, Canggu and the Bukit peninsula near Uluwatu tend to cost more than smaller towns. Ubud has a wide spread of guesthouses as well as hill resorts. Two people sharing a room pay much less each than a solo traveller, which is why couple budgets look cheaper per person.

Food

Eating at warungs, the small local cafes, keeps food costs low. You pick a few dishes to go with rice, and vegetarian options such as tempeh, tofu and vegetables are easy to find. Cafes and restaurants in Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud charge much more, closer to what you would pay in a city restaurant in India. Indian restaurants exist in the main tourist areas but are usually among the more expensive choices.

Getting around

There is little public transport for visitors, so most people use a car with driver, app taxis or a rented scooter. A car and driver for a full day of sightseeing is the easiest way for a couple or family. Scooters are cheaper but only make sense if you ride confidently and carry a valid licence with an international driving permit. The airport to Ubud drive is about 35 km and can take a long time in traffic, so price that transfer separately.

Activities and entry fees

Many temples charge a small entry fee and may ask you to wear a sarong. Paid activities such as a Kecak dance show, a sunrise trek on Mount Batur, snorkelling trips to Nusa Penida or a day at a water park add up fast. Pick two or three paid activities and fill the other days with beaches, rice terraces and walks, which cost little or nothing.

For a couple, double the per person items (flights, visa, levy) and keep the room and car costs as they are. For a family of four, check whether a two bedroom villa costs less than two hotel rooms, which it often does.

Money tips

Indonesia uses the rupiah, and prices are quoted with a lot of zeroes, so check each figure twice before you pay. Cards work in hotels and larger shops, but warungs and small stalls usually want cash. Tell your bank before you travel and check its foreign transaction fee. Card payments for the visa can also carry a bank charge, according to the e-VOA site.

Pay the tourist levy only on the official Love Bali site. Our Bali itinerary for 5 days shows how to group sights by area, which cuts down on driving costs.

When Bali costs less

Flights and rooms are usually cheaper outside the main holiday seasons. The shoulder months either side of the dry season can be good value. Weather matters too, and our best time to visit Bali guide sets out the dry and wet months with long-term rainfall figures. If your dates touch Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, expect the island to shut down for a day.

FAQ

What is the Bali trip cost from India for a couple?

It depends on your flight dates, hotel and transport. Start with the fixed costs for two people: two visa on arrival fees of IDR 500,000 each and two tourist levies of IDR 150,000 each. Then price flights, rooms, a driver and meals for your dates.

Is the Bali tourist levy included in the visa fee?

No. The IDR 150,000 levy is a separate payment to the Bali provincial government, made on the Love Bali site.

Do I pay TCS if I book flights and hotels myself?

TCS on overseas tour packages applies when you buy a package from a seller in India. Separate bookings are treated differently, so check with your bank or a tax adviser for your own case.

Which is the most expensive part of a Bali trip?

For most Indian travellers it is the return flight, followed by accommodation.
