Europe Trip Cost from India: A Budget Worksheet

There is no single answer to what a Europe trip costs from India. The total depends on how many days you stay, which countries you pick, when you travel and how you like to sleep and eat. What you can do is split the trip into cost blocks, fill in the fixed ones with official prices, and price the rest live for your dates. This guide walks through the Europe trip cost from India one block at a time, using Paris and Switzerland as worked examples.

Know before you go

  • Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12. Visa centres add their own service charge.
  • Travel insurance: the EU Visa Code requires medical cover of at least EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen area.
  • Swiss Travel Pass: from CHF 254 for 3 days in 2nd class for an adult, per Switzerland Tourism.
  • Paris Metro: a single Metro-Train-RER ticket costs EUR 2.55 in 2026; a Navigo day pass for all zones costs EUR 12.30 (airports excluded).
  • Big tickets: Louvre EUR 32 for non-EEA visitors; Eiffel Tower summit by lift EUR 36.70 for adults until 10 January 2027.
  • Not quoted here: flights, hotels and food. They change daily, so price them for your dates.
  • Last checked: 27 October 2026 (sources under Official resources below).

How to work out the cost

Split the budget into two groups.

Fixed costs barely move with your travel style: the visa, insurance, rail passes and the entry tickets you are sure to buy. You can look these up today.

Variable costs depend on your dates and choices: flights, accommodation, food, intercity trains booked as single tickets and shopping. These need live searches.

Then add a buffer. Exchange rates move, and prices quoted in euros or Swiss francs will turn into a different rupee figure by the time your card is charged.

Block 1: Visa and insurance

Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa for a short trip to most of Western Europe, including France, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland. The European Commission lists the fee as EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 12. Children under 6 are exempt. Visa service centres in India charge a separate service fee on top, so check the centre’s page for the amount on the day.

Travel insurance is a requirement, not an extra. The EU Visa Code sets minimum medical cover of EUR 30,000, valid across the Schengen area for the whole trip. Ask for a certificate that states the cover clearly.

Our Schengen visa guide for Indians covers the documents, processing time and where to apply.

Block 2: Flights

Return flights from India can be the largest single line in the budget, and they move a lot with the season. We do not quote fares here because they change daily.

To price this block:

  • Search open-jaw tickets, flying into one city and out of another, so you do not have to backtrack. For a France and Switzerland trip, that could mean Paris in and Zurich out.
  • Compare a few dates on either side of your plan.
  • Check what the fare includes. Checked baggage and seat selection can add up on long-haul tickets.

Put the best fare you find in the worksheet, and note the date you checked.

Block 3: Accommodation

Accommodation is the second big block. The choice between hostels, budget hotels, apartments and central hotels moves the total more than almost anything else.

Price this block city by city, for your exact nights. Staying a little outside the centre near a metro or train line can save money without costing too much time. For a family, an apartment with a kitchen also cuts down the food block.

Block 4: Getting around

In Switzerland

Switzerland is the clearest case for a pass. Switzerland Tourism lists these adult prices for the Swiss Travel Pass, valid on consecutive days:

Pass length2nd class1st class
3 daysCHF 254CHF 405
4 daysCHF 309CHF 492
6 daysCHF 399CHF 634
8 daysCHF 439CHF 697
15 daysCHF 499CHF 778

Travellers up to their 25th birthday get a 30% discount on the Swiss Travel Pass Youth. Children aged 6 to 15 travelling with a parent who holds a pass ride free with the Swiss Family Card. The pass covers trains, buses and boats, public transport in more than 90 towns and cities, and entry to more than 500 museums. Some panoramic trains need a seat reservation or supplement.

In Paris

Île-de-France Mobilités lists these 2026 fares:

TicketPrice
Metro-Train-RER single ticketEUR 2.55
Navigo day pass, all zones (no airports)EUR 12.30
Paris region to airports, singleEUR 14.00
Paris Visite pass, adult, 1 day, all zonesEUR 30.60
Paris Visite pass, adult, 3 days, all zonesEUR 63.80

Paris Visite includes airport services; the Navigo day pass does not. Add up your actual journeys before buying any pass.

Between cities

High-speed trains link the big cities, and single-ticket fares can rise as the travel date gets closer. Price each leg on the operator’s site for your date. A budget flight can make sense for longer hops, but add the airport transfers and bag fees to the comparison.

Block 5: Sights and experiences

This block is easy to underestimate. List the paid sights you know you want, then look up each price.

Some official examples:

SightAdult price
Louvre, non-EEA visitorEUR 32
Eiffel Tower, second floor by stairsEUR 14.80
Eiffel Tower, summit by liftEUR 36.70
Jungfraujoch return ticketfrom CHF 129.60
Jungfraujoch seat reservationCHF 10

The Eiffel Tower prices apply until 10 January 2027. From 11 January 2027, the stairs ticket to the second floor rises to EUR 15.20 and the summit by lift to EUR 37.70. The Louvre is free for under-18s and for all visitors on the first Friday of the month after 6 p.m., except in July and August. Our guides to Eiffel Tower tickets and the Jungfraujoch have the full fare tables.

A mountain excursion like the Jungfraujoch can be the biggest single entry ticket on the trip. Decide early whether it is a must, because it changes the total a lot.

Block 6: Food and daily spending

Food costs depend on how you eat. Supermarket breakfasts and picnic lunches cost far less than sit-down meals twice a day. Set a daily food allowance per person that matches your style, multiply by the number of days, and add a small amount for water, coffee, tips and toilets at stations.

Ways to bring the total down

  • Travel outside the summer and school holiday peaks when you can.
  • Pick fewer countries. Each extra base adds a train fare and often a pricier night.
  • Use a rail pass only where it beats single tickets, as in Switzerland for a multi-day trip.
  • Book big sights online on their official sites, and use free days where they exist.
  • Choose accommodation with breakfast or a kitchen.
